New singer - nothing new.
My expecations were high before my first show with the new Tony on vocal. First of all I must say that the show was great. A packed, steaming hot (and drunken) Rock City witnessed a good performance, and the response was in my opinion very good.
But, and yes there is a but; TNT didn't offer anything new. The setlist was almost a blueprint of the last concerts with Tony Harnell .
At the beginning of a new era of TNT I had expected them to blew the dust of some old songs, and even present one or two new ones to give a hint of things to come. That didn't happen . There were no surprises that would lift the concert from good to great.
With my eyes closed I could even imagine that it was mr. Harnell with the mic. So close to the "original" was The New Tony (TNT So to you who are doubting Tony Mills' vocal skills, there's no reason to worry. He was very good, with lots of energy. His communication with the audience was good, and he really seemed to be comfortable with the TNT songs.
They opened is usual manner with Invisible Noise, followed by As far as the eye can see, still with this annoying pre-recorded chorus (correct me if i'm wrong here). Then followed a thunderous version of Downhill racer with Mills really giving it an extra dimension. She needs me and Listen to your heart followed without lifting the roof before Give me a sign again proved to be a classic tune of TNT. Ronni's solo section was magnificent as always, but the (by now heavily drunken) audience didn't give it the attention it deserved. Tony returned for Caught between the tigers and then followed the only song from the last album; A heavy psychedlic jungle version of Black Butterfly with all the guys playing "drums" at the same time in the middle of the song. Awesome for us who know the song.
The long awaited 10.000 lovers got the crowd singing along very well. The singing got even better on the next song; My religion, the definite killer of the night. With that chorus it can't get wrong. (The kind of chorus that's IMHO sadly missed on ATWTTS...)
The founder of the band Dag Ingebrigtsen jumped on the stage to perform the band's breakthrough song in Norway; Harley Davidson. The song was performed in norwegian with Tony Mills joining the chorus. The norwegian classic, which Tony Harnell seem to hate, is a song that the Trondheim audience have been yelling for for 20 years. Their response was electric and Dag himself performed the song surprisingly well. The "national anthem" Seven Seas was great as always with Mills giving a more aggressive/Viking touch. The audience were now at the peak singing along to Tony Mills' delight, showing him that this is maybe the all-time greatest tune in the bands history. The show came to and end with the poppy Intuition, never one of my favourites, but we all enjoyed it. Approx. 85 mins and no extra songs, due to Rock City's lack of a backstage room. The band had to leave the building to get off the stage.
All in all a great show , but as I said, not many indications to the future of the band.
Having seen Live in Madrid I must say that the killer (Forever) Shine on was sorely missed.
Thanks for your attention forum readers. Don't axe me because this is my first post. I've been a fan since I got the "TNT" cassette in 1984, saw my first gig in 1987, and have been folowing your forum closely the last years. |

Great review |
Huck couldn't make it to the concert. He had to look after the riverboat down at Ravnkloa, when I went to see my fave band. Anyway, when I returned he wasn't there. I guess there was some striptease going on in the neighbourhood... |

Very good review
I think we can look forward to the 2007-tour. They will probably change the setlist and bring some new songs. The setlist hasn`t changed much the last years, and it would be fine if they did that for the next tour. Some new songs, and hopefully play some "new" old songs like Desperate night.
They must continue to play Give me a sign! It`s a great live-song!!! _________________ Trying to burn the sun
