Motorhead and the Tubes... now that is definitely mixed bag! :-) Honestly, the line-up to me isn't as compelling as some from years past, but I would definitely partake if a few plane tickets and a pile of cash dropped in my lap!!!

Its realy a grat mix with band so far, but there are about 50 more bands to come. The last years there have been around 70 bands at the festival.
Europe, Lita Ford & Marillion is my favourite so far.

I have to point out that 50 more bands will be added, 2 more headliners (AC/DC and Metallica anyone?) will be added later, They are quite good at finding the right mix of bands, personally I would go just to see (and yes listen  ) Lita Ford |

My favourites in this starting field are:
Blackfoot, Riot, The Outlaws, Foreigner, Lita Ford, The Tunes, Uriah Heep!!
Marillion was great with Fish and is still very good without him. I think I will enjoy seeing them very much.
Not even 1/3 of the bands have been released yet, so this is a very promising start. 4 day pass is already secured.

No doubt the organizers are dreaming about Metallica and AC/DC, something they actually said some ten years ago. The problem is that these bands are too big for the festival. There really is no need for those bands to play a festival like this when they can sell out Ullevi on their own.
This means bands like Metallica, AC/DC and Iron Maiden will be extremely expensive for the festival, so I doubt we'll ever see any of these at Sweden Rock Festival.

Unfortunately the wrong Runaway, but it can still be fun with Lita Ford.
Marillion is a band I like, but I'm afraid they can really fuck it up at SRF. The audience there wants to hear classics, and as long as Marillion most likely won't be playing any songs other than the really die hard fans will recognize, it can end up as a kind of disaster for the band. |

Thank you very much for this award! First of all I've got to thank God…
It is not really a case me being a negative bastard, but more a case me being realistic.
My guess is that I'm getting this award mainly because of my outlook on Marillion, but let me explain my view a bit more. Sweden Rock Festival attracts lots of "old" rockers (like myself), and after being a regular at the festival since 1998 I've seen how some bands/artists have failed to satisfy the audience by playing the "wrong" kind of set.
A good example is Gary Moore in 2001. I knew what to expect – only the blues – so it was not really a problem for me, but it seemed like most of the audience were waiting for "Out In The Fields", "Empty Rooms", "Over The Hills And Far Away" and those kind of songs. Pretty much everyone I talked after the show complained about the fact that Moore didn't play any of his eighties classics.
This is exactly what will happen with Marillion as well. They will no doubt have the hardcore fans there, and these fans will be pretty much satisfied with a set list consisting of mainly material from the last few years – and if we are lucky a couple of the "hits" from the early Hogarth years. The majority of the audience at a festival like this will still be waiting for "Market Square Heroes", "Garden Party", "Kayleigh" and songs like that, and the band won't play them. |
