The New Territory

1. A Constitution*- A good riff. Mills sounds menacing here with his gruff verse vocals. The lyrics remind me of something off a Jorn album.

2. Substitute**- Good arpeggiated intro, with a speed rock pace. Mills’s vocals match the frantic pace. I hear a bit of vibrato during the verse. I love mills mid-high ranged vocals during the line “was it something I saaaaaaaaid” Nice scream after the solo

3. Are you Blind- Hmm…. Well here we have a bit of an atmospheric intro riff. I recognize a bit of this from Firefly. Catchy chorus. A bit of a boring vocal performance here. However, the solo is good. It has a few wah-ed notes and some notes reminiscent of the solo for “Tonight I’m Falling.” Not my favorite, but fair.

4. Golden Opportunity**- Now THIS is more like it. A verse riff and vocals straight out of My Religion. Not bad lyrics. The Na Na Nas are really cool, but weird. Mills does lots of vocal acrobatics on this song.

5. Something Special- Not my favorite, but not the worst. However the solo is cool.

6. Now We’re Talking- Mediocre, but tolerable. Nice riff, good harmony chorus. Nice solo idea. Not a good track, but a nice tribute. This song is what turns most haters off. But they should listen to more songs instead of just judging it off this track.

7. Wild Life**- Back on track. Mills brings back harmony vocal styles not seen since Intuition. Nice intro riff. The chorus is just oozing with greatness and Intuition-style harmonies.

8. Fountain of Love- This song has a good chorus and riff, but not much else. Better luck next time, Tekro. Not a good track, but not the worst.

9. June- UGH! What is this song I don’t even… Worst track off of the album.

10. Can’t Go on Without**- A great song with very 80sesque chorus. I love the riff. Reminds me of the Who. Don’t ask why.

11. 2 Seconds Away*- Tekro kicks you in the ass with a heavy riff. Not bad lyrics, a great lead vocal. The chorus is odd, with vibrato “yeah-yeah-yeah”s. Crazy solo with lots of Whammy IIs thrown in. Hmm…Machine gunning! Yay!

12. Milestone River**- A dark song with a Tekro riff straight from Hey Love. Mills’ highly remorseful verse vocals remind me of David Bowie’s vocals on “When the Wind Blows” (any die hard Bowie fans know where that’s off of? Cookie if you do). Mills’ vocals on the chorus are good.

Note:* indicates my favorites
** Indicates favorite songs that are also the strongest

Good! Definitely not as bad as what certain people say! I loved it! Best album of ’07 for me so far! Haters be damned! Razz

I agree on some, but I think June is a fantastic song. Nothing wrong with a departure, in the same vein as What A Wonderful World.

June has really grown on me...I actually took the time to listen to the whole song. I like it a lot, it just took some time!

Initially, I thought that track was the most out of sync with the rest of the cd. But you could say time has been kind, and it really has its place: I have grown to appreciate the track a lot more.

And I wonder if he's got a bottle of Louis Latour...

;-)

Hmm...just relistened June, and it's a much better track than I thought! I love Tekro's arpeggiated intro, and anyone else notice how the wah-wah chords during the prechorus are identical to the ones in WaWW? Mills does an awesome job on the vocals. In fact, I like it better than WaWW. Dag Stokke does a great job on keyboards here. Great! Now Now We're Talking is my least favorite!

My faves:
Fountain Of Love
Can't Go On Without
Now We're Talking

I can't decide a fave between those first two gems. Absolutely brilliant tunes. Incredible vibe: they would fit well on KON.

Fact of the matter, is that many TNT albums were notoriously short.

Hokey Smokes! Ronni has come a long way with his songwriting since then. I can't believe some people would prefer he to return to writing like that. It was perfect for the mid-80's scene, but now...egads! Gadzooks, even!

TNT albums short? Fifteen minutes was plenty long back in those days!! Wink Wink Anyway, it had to fit onto a cassette.

Beats the hell out of having to scrap a song because
it is too long, right? Unless they try to do some sort of concept
album.
TNT music is fun and energetic. Ronni doesn't need to waste time on fifteen minute guitar solos. Why should he? It shows his maturity and confidence as a guitarist. Cool

Oh, and "June" is a good song. Each song on New Territory is different
I like it! DAMMIT! Laughing
